Most of the emulator is written in assembly language. On Christmas Day 2008, the first Kega Fusion (3.52i) was released for Macintosh, on September 28, 2009, a pre-compiled version of Linux called Kega Fusion 3.62x was released. The beta was scrapped after version 3.2 for the same reason. The logic in starting Kega Fusion with 3.0 is because it is the third major revision of the Kega heritage, in order of Kega, Kega Lazarus, and Kega Fusion. The next release was called Kega Fusion 3.0 beta, Snake said that the low number made many people embarrassed It is popular belief that programs with numbers less than 1.0 are unstable or incomplete (many freeware and open source programs have beta states indefinitely and are not therefore unstable or incomplete). It was released after the very popular Gens, another Windows emulator with good speed and compatibility, released by StefD in 1999.

To run at full speed, it required at least a computer with a 500 MHz Celeron. It included many new features such as Sega Master System and Mega-CD emulation. Kega (2002)ДЄfter a long break from the emulation scene, Snake surprised many fans with the surprise release of Kega, a new DirectX- based emulation for Windows.

Right away Steve Sega was asked to create a Windows compatible version that could be sold with some classic games in the 'Sega Smash Pack'. Still based on DOS, it required almost the same as its predecessor but something else to enable its high-quality sound mode and 16- bit video mode with effects and shadows. KGen98 was a new rewritten version of KGen, with better compatibility, more features, and better stereo sound quality. KGen-X was an aborted rewrite of KGen that was never released to the public. This was a DOS-based emulator and ran on 486 or better hardware, but required at least a Pentium to run at full speed.

Another emulator called Genecyst was released around the same time by Bloodlust Software and a healthy rivalry began. This was the first time that the YM2612 chip was successfully emulated, contrary to other efforts that tried to approximate the sound and music of Genesis using the then popular OPе…ѓ chips on compatible Adlib and Sound Blaster cards. Of course, we are talking about characteristic horizontal lines known also to people dealing with films recorded on VHS tapes.KGen was Steve Snake's first attempt at creating a Mega Drive emulator, written because at the time the only emulator available, Genem, was slow and had poor sound quality. It is worth mentioning that in Kega Fusion we also got an optional mode, where the projected image is deceptively reminiscent of the one that 'reigned' in the 80's on classic receivers. The application supports resolutions from 640 by 480 to even 2715 by 1527 pixels. Kega Fusion offers a variety of configuration options to customize the program according to your preference, which can run games in a window or on a large screen of your choice of picture and sound quality. Simply drag the ROM image into the main program window to start playing.

The whole system works extremely smoothly and without any problems. Like other emulators, Kega Fusion also requires, of course, to have an appropriate ROM file, thanks to which we will be able to enable a given production on our PC.

The tool allows you to emulate video games from the following consoles: Sega SG1000, SC3000, SF7000, Master System, Game Gear, Genesis/Megadrive, SVP, Pico, SegaCD/MegaCD and 32X.
